The Goose Man
About Mike
The Goose Man
Born in the industrial Black Country,Mike lived and worked there until moving to the beautiful Shropshire countryside in the early 1990’s where he's lived ever since with his wife whilst raising their four children.
Despite.. “not remembering a time when I wasn’t drawing”,Mike could never take his art seriously as.. “it wasn’t seen then as a real job” resulting in him joining the family in the building trade. When he reached his forties, Mike studied for a degree in ICT and Business and joined the teaching profession.
It was only as his children grew up and started their own careers that Mike began to take his artwork seriously.
Working in watercolour, Mike’s artwork is inspired by his own memories as a child growing up in the industrialised Black Country mixed with memories of his own kid's Shropshire childhood and tales that were told to him by his late dad….Norman Norman... a true Black Country mon!
You may notice a thread throughout Mikes work…geese!
“All of my work includes at least one goose, (sometimes cleverly hidden), when the kids were younger, we lived opposite a goose farm and we would watch them grow bigger throughout the year, laughing at their escapades. We would however have to explain to the children that they all went to new owners at Christmas time!”
This has led to many of collectors and fans of his work referring to him as "The Goose Man"
